The beautiful valley Quetta is the capital of Balochistan province and is known as the ‘Fruit Garden of Pakistan’ due to the variety of fruits and dry fruits produced there. A GIS is defined as a computer system that capture, store, retrieve, manipulate, and analyze geographical data. GIS technology is frequently used in urban planning, and has impacts on people living in the area in several ways.
Geographic information system can have impacts on our lives and it can be used to examine the urban growth and its development as well. Urbanization is increasing rapidly in Quetta city and to examine the urban growth GIS can be used. It helps to identify the sites suitable for the urban growth and also helpful in identification of land and its features like: availability of land; water quality; flat of vacant land.
The GIS technology has improved and developed in recent years. GIS is not always run by computer, but it requires skilled and trained people and they received degree in this field. GIS is not only important in terms of urban planning only rather it is necessary in today’s fats moving and technology based world.
If GIS is implemented in Quetta city then it will also help in business and also serve as a systematic tool to help a business decision. GIS helps to see where the potential customers come from. For instance, if a utility store opens in a specific area, and it is 5 miles nearer than the other utility store, the owner can conclude that the customers will not be likely to try the new utility store.
