At the time of migration, Pakistan gain very little wealth from the act of partition. From 1947 up till now Pakistan has gain a remarkable recognition around the world through the blessings of ALLAH all mighty and few patriotic leaders and citizens. Salute to their dedications and hard work. Pakistan started to stabile its base through agricultural practices and make economic progress. The reason of this choice is that, much of the industries remain in India and Pakistan had no industries in numbers. The land in boundaries of Pakistan was fertile land so majority of people has chosen the agricultural sector as their source of income as well as nation’s prosperity.
But in 70 years major changes has occurred along with development i.e. population explosion, resource degradation, water scarcity etc. Pakistan being agrarian nation needs some planning or technology to attain sustainability. For this a new and emerging field geographical information system and remote sensing (GIS/RS) could be the best choice. Through remote sensing (satellite imageries) crop health, region topography, climate change, precipitation patterns can easily be known. GIS can analysis soil profile and predict which crop to grow or at what time. Through this farmer’s many problems can be encounter and management can be improved. Like in our country GIS could help in minimizing the food crisis of increasing population by helping framers to predict weather conditions, how to irrigate by considering local water resources, crops selection and monitoring soil nutrients.
Shortly GIS can not only map topography or crop health but it could also help in economic progress through helping framers to increase their production or mitigate their issues. The GIS applications are not very expensive that it cannot be owned and all it needs is the knowledge, awareness and management. Our nation can progress more as being an agriculture state through the use of GIS/RS applications as they are more advanced, efficient and less time consuming.
